Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 646 people, 226 households, and 148 families residing in the city. The population density is 222.7/km² (576.7/mi²). There are 241 housing units at an average density of 83.1 persons/km² (215.2 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.21% White, 0.15% African American, 0.62% Native American, 0.62% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.93% from other races, and 0.46% from two or more races. 2.32% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 226 households out of which 33.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.4% are married couples living together, 7.5% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 34.1% are non-families. 29.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.63 and the average family size is 3.28.

In the city the population is spread out with 26.6% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 17.8% from 45 to 64, and 22.8% who are 65 years of age or older.
