Saint Etienne (band)

Saint Etienne is a British pop group, nominally led by Sarah Cracknell. Ex-music journalists Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs are the other members of the band. They are named after the famous French football team, A.S. St Etienne, European champions in the 1970s.

Saint Etienne specialise in dance-pop music, but are well-loved by indie fans for their clever lyrics and inventive production style. They began to shift towards a more atmospheric type of electronica in 1998 with the release of 'Sound Of Water', dividing their fanbase. Their best known song is a cover of Neil Young's classic 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart', recorded before Sarah joined the band. Their latest release is Finisterre, released in 2002.
