Ruth is a town located in Rutherford County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 329.

Ruth is located at 35°22'60" North, 81°56'36" West (35.383224, -81.943365)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 329 people, 137 households, and 96 families residing in the town. The population density is 288.7/km² (749.8/mi²). There are 155 housing units at an average density of 136.0/km² (353.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 92.10% White, 6.38% African American, 0.61% Native American, none Asian or Pacific Islander, 0.61% from other races, and 0.30% from two or more races. 1.22% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 137 households out of which 28.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.7% are married couples living together, 8.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% are non-families. 27.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.40 and the average family size is 2.87.

In the town the population is spread out with 20.7% under the age of 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 101.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.9 males.
