Roosevelt Island Tramway

The Roosevelt Island Tramway is a cable car in New York, New York United States of America connecting Roosevelt Island to Manhattan and Queens.

It was built in 1976 by the swiss company Vonroll. It originally was built as a temporary transportation solution as the subway to the island was being renovated. As the subway project ran behind schedule, the "Tram" became more popular and was converted into a permanent facility.

It has carry since over 20 million passengers. It travels a distance of 3,100 feet (one km) at an average speed of 16 mph (28 km/h) in 4 1/2 minutes.
