Reed City is a city located in Osceola County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,430. It is the county seat of Osceola County6.


\nAccording to the
United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.1 km² (2.0 mi²). 5.0 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.04% water.


\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 2,430 people, 999 households, and 609 families residing in the city. The population density is 488.7/km² (1,265.3/mi²). There are 1,090 housing units at an average density of 219.2/km² (567.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.84% White, 1.07% African American, 0.74% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 2.02% from two or more races. 0.91% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 999 households out of which 31.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.2% are married couples living together, 16.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.0% are non-families. 33.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.30 and the average family size is 2.93. In the city the population is spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 11.4% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 84.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.8 males. The median income for a household in the city is $30,756, and the median income for a family is $42,340. Males have a median income of $29,375 versus $25,263 for females.
