Real World Studios

Real World Studios is the high-tech recording studio associated with the Real World Records Ltd. record label founded by rock musician Peter Gabriel. Its main purpose is to promote world music and give musicians from around the world a chance to release their music in geographic areas they normally would be unable to reach (especially in the United States, where music from Africa, Asia, and Latin America is rarely heard on corporation-controlled radio).

Gabriel has released all of his own albums under the Real World label since 1989. His influence has helped sell albums, and his album Passion: Music for The Last Temptation of Christ has been called a landmark in the popularization of world music. The Real World label has introduced such musicians as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Youssou N'dour to Western culture.

Real World has given musicians from different nations and different cultures the opportunity to work together and experiment with musical fusion. The studio's best-selling musical group, other than Gabriel himself, has been the Afro-Celt Sound System, which uses this musical "fusion" to combine African and Celtic rhythms and melodies.
