Randall Simon

Randall Simon (b. May 26, 1975 in Willemstad, Curacao) a professional baseball player in Major League Baseball. After his professional debut season for the Atlanta Braves in 1997 (until 1999), he played for the Detroit Tigers (2001, 2002) and Pittsburgh Pirates. He currently shares duties at first base with Eric Karros for the Chicago Cubs.

Simon was involved in one of the most memorable moments of the 2003 US sporting year. While playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates at a game in Miller Park in Milwaukee, Simon hit the Italian sausage mascot during the sausage race. Simon was arrested, charged, and fined for disorderly conduct. He was also suspended by Major League Baseball. The sausage, played by college student Mandy Block, only suffered a scraped knee.

Simon was later traded by Pittsburgh to the Chicago Cubs, where he had a productive postseason, helping the Cubs to the 2003 National League Championship Series (NLCS).
