Protected areas of Queensland (Australia)

Queensland is the second largest mainland state in Australia. It contains 470 separate Protected Areas with a total land area of 6,938,764 hectares (4.02% of the state’s area). 216 of these are National parks, which is the highest number of any Australian state or territory, totalling 6,587,093 hectares (3.81% of the state’s area). Seven others are Scientific National Parks, totalling 52,181 hectares (0.03% of the state’s area).
