Prattville is a city located in Autauga County, Alabama and partially in Elmore County, Alabama.. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 24,303. The city is the county seat of Autauga County, Alabama.

Geography

\nPrattville is located at 32°27'32.886" North, 86°27'4.698" West (32.459135, -86.451305). According to the
U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 61.9 km² (23.9 mi²). 60.0 km² (23.2 mi²) of it is land and 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.09% water.

Demographics

census2 of 2000, there are 24,303 people, 8,939 households, and 6,918 families residing in the city. The population density is 405.0/km² (1,049.0/mi²). There are 9,562 housing units at an average density of 159.3/km² (412.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 83.09% White, 14.42% Black or African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.64% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races. 1.71% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 8,939 households out of which 38.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.6% are married couples living together, 13.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.6% are non-families. 19.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.70 and the average family size is 3.10. In the city the population is spread out with 28.5% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 31.0% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.5 males.
