Pinckney, Michigan

Pinckney is a village located in Livingston County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,141.

Major road which run though Pinckney are Michigan Highway 36 and Livingston County Highway D19.

Not far from Pinckney is the famous locale known Hell, Michigan.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 4.0 km² (1.5 mi²). 3.9 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.25% water.


As of the census of 2000, there are 2,141 people, 731 households, and 573 families residing in the village. The population density is 554.8/km² (1,436.8/mi²). There are 778 housing units at an average density of 201.6/km² (522.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.80% White, 0.14% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.37% from other races, and 1.21% from two or more races. 0.70% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 731 households out of which 48.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.7% are married couples living together, 11.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.6% are non-families. 16.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.90 and the average family size is 3.28.

In the village the population is spread out with 32.7% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 36.0% from 25 to 44, 17.7% from 45 to 64, and 6.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 102.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.7 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $58,077, and the median income for a family is $60,776. Males have a median income of $45,125 versus $27,198 for females. The per capita income for the village is $20,429. 5.7% of the population and 4.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 4.8% are under the age of 18 and 9.9% are 65 or older.
