Physics Analysis Workstation

Physics Analysis Workstation (PAW) is an interactive, scriptable tool for analysis and graphical presentation of data in high energy physics. Developed at CERN, it is optimized for processing very large amounts of data. It is based on and intended for interoperation with components of cernlib, an extensive collection of Fortran libraries (C interfaces for these exist, too).

PAW has been a standard tool in the field for decades, yet has essentially grown beyond maintainability. So, despite continuing popularity, it has recently been losing ground to the C++-based ROOT package.
