The Penobscot people are an indigenous people native to what is now the northeastern U.S. and Maritime Canada, particularly Maine. They were a significant participant in the Abenaki confederacy (or Wabanaki confederacy), along with the Passamaqouddy, Maliseet and Mi'kmaq nations.
