Paint Rock, Texas

Paint Rock is a town located in Concho County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 320. It is the county seat of Concho County6.

Geography

Paint Rock is located at 31°30'28" North, 99°55'24" West (31.507777, -99.923277)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.3 km² (1.7 mi²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 320 people, 110 households, and 83 families residing in the town. The population density is 74.4/km² (192.7/mi²). There are 126 housing units at an average density of 29.3/km² (75.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 77.19% White, none African American, 2.81% Native American, none Asian or Pacific Islander, 19.69% from other races, and 0.31% from two or more races. 28.44% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 110 households out of which 41.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.5% are married couples living together, 9.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.5% are non-families. 21.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.91 and the average family size is 3.45.

In the town the population is spread out with 30.6% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 86.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.1 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $32,500, and the median income for a family is $33,750. Males have a median income of $21,786 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,965. 15.9% of the population and 13.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 24.7% are under the age of 18 and 11.1% are 65 or older.
