Owls Head is a town located in Knox County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,601.


\nAccording to the
United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 50.8 km² (19.6 mi²). 23.0 km² (8.9 mi²) of it is land and 27.7 km² (10.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 54.64% water.


\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 1,601 people, 723 households, and 469 families residing in the town. The population density is 69.5/km² (180.1/mi²). There are 992 housing units at an average density of 43.1/km² (111.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.94% White, 0.06% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 0.62% from two or more races. 0.31% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 723 households out of which 21.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% are married couples living together, 6.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% are non-families. 29.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.20 and the average family size is 2.68. In the town the population is spread out with 18.6% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 22.3% from 25 to 44, 29.8% from 45 to 64, and 24.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 47 years. For every 100 females there are 92.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.0 males.
