Geography

\nAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,669 km² (644 mi²). 1,658 km² (640 mi²) of it is land and 11 km² (4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.63% water.

census2 of 2000, there are 160,971 people, 60,530 households, and 42,189 families residing in the county. The population density is 97/km² (251/mi²). There are 62,614 housing units at an average density of 38/km² (98/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 93.87% White, 0.54% Black or African American, 1.54% Native American, 2.23% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.81% from other races, and 0.98% from two or more races. 1.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 60,530 households out of which 36.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.90% are married couples living together, 7.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.30% are non-families. 24.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.14. In the county, the population is spread out with 27.70% under the age of 18, 8.90% from 18 to 24, 31.90% from 25 to 44, 20.70% from 45 to 64, and 10.90% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 99.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.90 males.
