As an unincorporated area, North Kensington's boundaries are not officially defined. North Kensington is, however, recognized by the United States Census Bureau as a Census-designated Place, and by the United States Geological Survey as a populated place located at 39°2'27" North, 77°4'17" West (39.040709, -77.071296)1.
As of the census of 2000, there are 8,940 people, 3,527 households, and 2,197 families residing in the area. The population density is 2,241.4/km² (5,799.5/mi²). There are 3,631 housing units at an average density of 910.3/km² (2,355.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the area is 67.00% White, 13.31% African American, 0.39% Native American, 8.66% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 6.33% from other races, and 4.24% from two or more races. 15.08% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,527 households out of which 25.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.8% are married couples living together, 11.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.7% are non-families. 29.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
