North Eastham, Massachusetts

North Eastham is a village located in the town of Eastham in Barnstable County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,915.

Geography

North Eastham is located at 41°51'5" North, 69°59'60" West (41.851349, -69.999928)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 31.0 km² (12.0 mi²). 8.8 km² (3.4 mi²) of it is land and 22.1 km² (8.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 71.49% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,915 people, 881 households, and 570 families residing in the village. The population density is 217.5/km² (562.4/mi²). There are 2,656 housing units at an average density of 301.6/km² (780.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.12% White, 0.26% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.05% from other races, and 0.94% from two or more races. 0.84% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 881 households out of which 20.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.6% are married couples living together, 11.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% are non-families. 29.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.17 and the average family size is 2.63.

In the village the population is spread out with 17.1% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 22.6% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 29.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 49 years. For every 100 females there are 89.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.9 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $34,390, and the median income for a family is $42,794. Males have a median income of $32,143 versus $38,889 for females. The per capita income for the village is $20,797. 8.1% of the population and 6.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 8.2% are under the age of 18 and 14.4% are 65 or older.
