Newspaper Rock State Historic Monument

Newspaper Rock State Historic Monument is located in some 25 miles from Monticello in eastern Utah, western United States. It features a flat rock with one of the largest known collections of petroglyphs.

The petryoglyph are believed to have been carved by natives, possibly the Anasazi, into the rock between the first 1st and 5th century AD, but dating the rock carvings is difficult. The reason for the large concentration of the petroglyphs is unclear as well, making the rock somewhat of a mystery.

The rock is located on one of the access road of the Canyonlands National Park, state highway 211.
