Negaunee is a city located in Marquette County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,576.


\nAccording to the
United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 38.0 km² (14.7 mi²). 35.7 km² (13.8 mi²) of it is land and 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.07% water.


\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 4,576 people, 1,946 households, and 1,218 families residing in the city. The population density is 128.2/km² (332.1/mi²). There are 2,088 housing units at an average density of 58.5/km² (151.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.63% White, 0.28% African American, 1.29% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 1.44% from two or more races. 0.44% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,946 households out of which 27.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.4% are married couples living together, 9.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.4% are non-families. 33.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.30 and the average family size is 2.93. In the city the population is spread out with 22.3% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 18.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 92.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.7 males. The median income for a household in the city is $33,117, and the median income for a family is $39,750. Males have a median income of $36,026 versus $22,380 for females.
