Mountain View is a town located in Catawba County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,768.

census of 2000, there are 3,768 people, 1,364 households, and 1,104 families residing in the town. The population density is 301.8/km² (781.4/mi²). There are 1,404 housing units at an average density of 112.5/km² (291.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 89.15% White, 5.97% African American, 0.35% Native American, 3.29% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 0.66% from two or more races. 1.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,364 households out of which 39.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.0% are married couples living together, 9.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.0% are non-families. 16.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.76 and the average family size is 3.09. In the town the population is spread out with 27.5% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 31.2% from 25 to 44, 27.0% from 45 to 64, and 8.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 94.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.5 males. The median income for a household in the town is $51,974, and the median income for a family is $56,313. Males have a median income of $35,635 versus $27,128 for females. The per capita income for the town is $22,125. 5.0% of the population and 2.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 5.3% are under the age of 18 and 5.7% are 65 or older.
