Eruzione was born in Winthrop, Massachusetts. He attended Boston University, after which he joined the Olympic team. Eruzione, who played forward, was the captain of the Olympic team, scoring the winning goal against the Soviets and helping the Americans win the Gold medal. While he never played in the NHL, he did play for two seasons in the IHL, with the Toronto Goaldiggers. Eruzione then became a television broadcaster, grabbing the microphone at New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils games, and going on to comment at five Olympic Games, working for both ABC and NBC.
Eruzione returned to his alma mater of Boston College, where he currently works as Director of Development for Athletics. He is a member of various hall of fames. The 2004 movie, Miracle, is based largely on his relationship with his national team's coach (Herb Brooks) and his role as captain of the national team.
