Mena is a city located in Polk County, Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 5,637. The city is the county seat of Polk County6.

census2 of 2000, there are 5,637 people, 2,431 households, and 1,546 families residing in the city. The population density is 322.9/km² (836.4/mi²). There are 2,771 housing units at an average density of 158.7/km² (411.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.91% White, 0.20% Black or African American, 0.87% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.50% from other races, and 1.21% from two or more races. 2.18% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,431 households out of which 27.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.7% are married couples living together, 10.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.4% are non-families. 33.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.24 and the average family size is 2.85. In the city the population is spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 23.8% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 24.5% who are 65 years of age or older.
