Martinsville is a city located in Morgan County, Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 11,698. The city is the county seat of Morgan County6.

census of 2000, there are 11,698 people, 4,621 households, and 3,086 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,012.7/km² (2,620.6/mi²). There are 4,880 housing units at an average density of 422.5/km² (1,093.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.62% White, 0.09% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. 0.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 4,621 households out of which 32.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.8% are married couples living together, 11.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% are non-families. 28.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 2.96. In the city the population is spread out with 25.1% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.6 males.
