Marrero is a town located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 36,165.

1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 22.2 km² (8.6 mi²). 20.8 km² (8.1 mi²) of it is land and 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.96% water.

Demographics

census of 2000, there are 36,165 people, 12,432 households, and 9,336 families residing in the town. The population density is 1,734.6/km² (4,493.3/mi²). There are 13,046 housing units at an average density of 625.7/km² (1,620.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 47.48% White, 47.69% African American, 0.39% Native American, 2.46% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.71% from other races, and 1.22% from two or more races. 3.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 12,432 households out of which 35.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.4% are married couples living together, 23.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.9% are non-families. 21.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.86 and the average family size is 3.33. In the town the population is spread out with 29.0% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 87.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 81.3 males. The median income for a household in the town is $31,648, and the median income for a family is $37,287. Males have a median income of $31,995 versus $20,501 for females.
