Manilla, Iowa

Manilla is a city located in Crawford County, Iowa. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 839. The city is not to be confused with Manila, the capital of the Philippines.

Geography

Manilla is located at 41°53'18" North, 95°13'58" West (41.888202, -95.232809)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 839 people, 337 households, and 222 families residing in the city. The population density is 410.1/km² (1,059.2/mi²). There are 369 housing units at an average density of 180.3/km² (465.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.74% White, 0.24% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.36% from other races, and 1.67% from two or more races. 0.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 337 households out of which 27.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.7% are married couples living together, 7.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.1% are non-families. 30.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.89.

In the city the population is spread out with 22.8% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 21.8% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 27.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 90.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.2 males.
