Madurodam

Madurodam is a famous miniature city in The Hague, Netherlands, that is a model of a Dutch town on a 1:25 scale, composed by buildings that are found in various places of the country. This tourist attraction was named after George Maduro, a student from Curaçao who died at Dachau concentration camp in 1945, and whose parents donated the money to start this project.

On 2 July 1952, then princess Beatrix was appointed as mayor of Madurodam, after which she was shown around in her town. When she was appointed queen of the Netherlands, she laid down this function. Nowadays, the mayor of Madurodam is elected from the youth municipal council, which consists of 25 pupils of schools in the region.
