Madison is a city located in Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,768. It is the county seat of Lac qui Parle County6.

United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²). 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 1,768 people, 789 households, and 462 families residing in the city. The population density is 669.2/km² (1,737.6/mi²). There are 882 housing units at an average density of 333.9/km² (866.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 99.21% White, 0.06% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.51% from two or more races. 0.06% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 789 households out of which 21.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.9% are married couples living together, 6.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 41.4% are non-families. 39.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 28.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.07 and the average family size is 2.75. In the city the population is spread out with 19.1% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 17.9% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 35.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 51 years. For every 100 females there are 80.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 77.1 males.
