Ludowici is a city located in Long County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,440. The city is the county seat of Long County6.

Demographics

census of 2000, there are 1,440 people, 526 households, and 370 families residing in the city. The population density is 250.4/km² (649.0/mi²). There are 636 housing units at an average density of 110.6/km² (286.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 72.78% White, 23.82% African American, 1.18% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 1.25% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. 2.29% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 526 households out of which 41.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.4% are married couples living together, 19.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.5% are non-families. 24.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.74 and the average family size is 3.27. In the city the population is spread out with 33.6% under the age of 18, 11.7% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 16.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 28 years. For every 100 females there are 95.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.5 males. The median income for a household in the city is $27,386, and the median income for a family is $28,792. Males have a median income of $25,272 versus $16,250 for females.
