Livingston is a city located in Sumter County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 3,297. The city is the county seat of Sumter County6.

census2 of 2000, there are 3,297 people, 1,368 households, and 731 families residing in the city. The population density is 178.8/km² (463.1/mi²). There are 1,586 housing units at an average density of 86.0/km² (222.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 37.82% White, 60.78% Black or African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. 1.43% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,368 households out of which 29.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 30.0% are married couples living together, 20.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 46.5% are non-families. 35.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 3.14. In the city the population is spread out with 26.2% under the age of 18, 23.7% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 16.5% from 45 to 64, and 9.4% who are 65 years of age or older.
