Linn County is a county located in the U.S. State of Iowa. As of 2000, the population is 191,701. Its county seat is Cedar Rapids, Iowa6.

Geography

\nAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,877 km² (725 mi²). 1,858 km² (717 mi²) of it is land and 18 km² (7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.98% water.

census2 of 2000, there are 191,701 people, 76,753 households, and 50,349 families residing in the county. The population density is 103/km² (267/mi²). There are 80,551 housing units at an average density of 43/km² (112/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 93.90% White, 2.57% Black or African American, 0.22% Native American, 1.37% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 1.44% from two or more races. 1.42% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 76,753 households out of which 31.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.20% are married couples living together, 9.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.40% are non-families. 27.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 2.99. In the county the population is spread out with 25.30% under the age of 18, 10.10% from 18 to 24, 30.30% from 25 to 44, 22.10% from 45 to 64, and 12.20% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 96.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.40 males. The median income for a household in the county is $46,206, and the median income for a family is $56,494. Males have a median income of $38,525 versus $26,403 for females. The per capita income for the county is $22,977. 6.50% of the population and 4.30% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 7.60% are under the age of 18 and 6.40% are 65 or older.
