Landlocked

A landlocked country is one that has no coastline. This has historically been regarded as a notably disadvantageous position, as it renders the resources inherent in the sea (such as fishing and transportation) inacessible; Thus, one notices that, in many cases, countries make a particular effort to avoid being landlocked, and those that remain landlocked tend to be left behind. Two countries in the world are double-landlocked (see below), that is to say, they are surrounded only by landlocked countries.
