Lakota is a city located in Nelson County, North Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 781. It is the county seat of Nelson County6.

census of 2000, there are 781 people, 345 households, and 212 families residing in the city. The population density is 295.6/km² (764.2/mi²). There are 387 housing units at an average density of 146.5/km² (378.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.82% White, 0.00% African American, 0.77% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races. 0.13% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 345 households out of which 25.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% are married couples living together, 7.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.3% are non-families. 36.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 24.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.10 and the average family size is 2.74. In the city the population is spread out with 20.7% under the age of 18, 3.1% from 18 to 24, 19.3% from 25 to 44, 27.0% from 45 to 64, and 29.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 49 years. For every 100 females there are 82.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 76.4 males. The median income for a household in the city is $26,940, and the median income for a family is $37,292. Males have a median income of $29,375 versus $16,250 for females.
