La Grand Township, Minnesota

La Grand Township is a township located in Douglas County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 4,056.

Geography

\nAccording to the
United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 85.2 km² (32.9 mi²). 68.4 km² (26.4 mi²) of it is land and 16.9 km² (6.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 19.78% water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 4,056 people, 1,528 households, and 1,231 families residing in the township. The population density is 59.3/km² (153.6/mi²). There are 1,813 housing units at an average density of 26.5/km² (68.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 99.21% White, 0.07% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.02% from other races, and 0.22% from two or more races. 0.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,528 households out of which 33.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 74.0% are married couples living together, 4.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.4% are non-families. 15.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.65 and the average family size is 2.95. In the township the population is spread out with 25.1% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 27.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 102.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.2 males. The median income for a household in the township is $52,500, and the median income for a family is $56,303. Males have a median income of $36,723 versus $24,213 for females. The per capita income for the township is $20,837. 4.4% of the population and 3.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 6.6% are under the age of 18 and 1.3% are 65 or older.
