King of Prussia, Pennsylvania

King of Prussia is a town located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 18,511.

King of Prussia contains the largest shopping complex in the world, a two-mall agglomeration consisting of the adjacent Plaza at King of Prussia and Court at King of Prussia. Among other stores, the complex features the only FAO Schwarz store in Pennsylvania.


King of Prussia is located at 40°5'41" North, 75°22'41" West (40.094608, -75.378076)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 21.9 km² (8.5 mi²). 21.8 km² (8.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.83% water.


As of the census of 2000, there are 18,511 people, 8,245 households, and 4,773 families residing in the town. The population density is 850.8/km² (2,202.4/mi²). There are 8,705 housing units at an average density of 400.1/km² (1,035.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 82.70% White, 4.26% African American, 0.16% Native American, 10.62% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.84% from other races, and 1.39% from two or more races. 1.91% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 8,245 households out of which 21.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.2% are married couples living together, 6.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.1% are non-families. 33.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.22 and the average family size is 2.89.

In the town the population is spread out with 17.6% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 35.1% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 97.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.1 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $62,012, and the median income for a family is $75,882. Males have a median income of $50,803 versus $37,347 for females. The per capita income for the town is $32,070. 3.2% of the population and 1.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 1.8% are under the age of 18 and 2.1% are 65 or older.
