Kinai

Kinai (畿内) is a historical district of Japan. Its name literally means "surrounding the capital." It consisted of the following five provinces:

• Yamato province
• Yamashiro province
• Kawachi province
• Settsu province
• Izumi province

Nowadays, the region is usually referred to as Kinki or Kansai.
