Geography\nAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,517 km² (972 mi²). 2,514 km² (971 mi²) of it is land and 3 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.12% water.
Demographics\nAs of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,193 people, 509 households, and 327 families residing in the county. The population density is 0/km² (1/mi²). There are 614 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (1/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.81% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 2.43% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 1.51% from two or more races. 0.34% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 509 households out of which 29.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.20% are married couples living together, 7.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.60% are non-families. 33.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
