John Cary

John Cary (1754-1835) was an 18th century cartographer.

His atlas The New and Correct English Atlas published in 1787 became a standard reference work in England. Among his other major works were Cary's New Itinerary (1798) which was commisioned by the General Post Office as a map of all the major roads in England and Wales.

In his later life he collaborated with the geologist William Smith.
