Illyrian languages

Illyrian languages are a group of Indo-European languages that were found in the western part of the Balkans. Around 230 BC the languages were Romanized. Afterwards they were suppressed by the Slavs in the 7th century. They are known by glossaries and names.

Since very little is known about the Illyrian languages, when linguists encounter what they consider anomalies in their data, they humorously blame them on "Illyrian influences".

Albanian is believed to be derivative from Illyrian languages.
