Huntingdon is a borough located in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 6,918. It is the county seat of Huntingdon County6.

Demographics

census of 2000, there are 6,918 people, 2,626 households, and 1,491 families residing in the borough. The population density is 774.2/km² (2,006.2/mi²). There are 2,817 housing units at an average density of 315.3/km² (816.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 96.40% White, 1.40% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.61% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 1.11% from two or more races. 0.66% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,626 households out of which 25.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.4% are married couples living together, 10.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 43.2% are non-families. 37.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.17 and the average family size is 2.85. In the borough the population is spread out with 18.5% under the age of 18, 22.5% from 18 to 24, 22.8% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 84.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.0 males. The median income for a household in the borough is $31,261, and the median income for a family is $42,684. Males have a median income of $33,269 versus $21,327 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $15,744. 13.9% of the population and 10.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 13.5% are under the age of 18 and 6.4% are 65 or older.
