Hizb-e-Wahdat

A political party in Afghanistan (also referred to as the Wahdat, Unity), informally representing the Hazara people of the region. The ideological leader of this party was the Ustad Abdul Ali Mazari, who was taken captive by the Taliban, and killed in an escape attempt aboard a helicopter.

The Wahdat party has been accused of taking part in the rapid deterioration of the Mujahideen government of Afghanistan in the early 1990s (please enter precise dates), and attacking civilian populations in the city of Kabul. After the installment of a new government in Afghanistan, following the post-September 11th battles defeating the Taliban, the Wahdat has become an important player again in the government.
