Hermosa Beach is a city located in Los Angeles County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 18,566.

1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 15.3 km² (5.9 mi²). 3.7 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is land and 11.6 km² (4.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 75.80% water.

Demographics

census of 2000, there are 18,566 people, 9,476 households, and 3,553 families residing in the city. The population density is 5,012.8/km² (12,982.4/mi²). There are 9,840 housing units at an average density of 2,656.8/km² (6,880.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 89.58% White, 0.81% African American, 0.40% Native American, 4.40% Asian, 0.22% Pacific Islander, 1.68% from other races, and 2.91% from two or more races. 6.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 9,476 households out of which 14.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 30.6% are married couples living together, 4.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 62.5% are non-families. 39.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.95 and the average family size is 2.65. In the city the population is spread out with 12.0% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 55.0% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 6.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 112.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 113.8 males. The median income for a household in the city is $81,153, and the median income for a family is $104,645. Males have a median income of $67,407 versus $50,295 for females.
