Heidelberg is a town located in Hidalgo County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,586.

census of 2000, there are 1,586 people, 371 households, and 339 families residing in the town. The population density is 215.6/km² (558.2/mi²). There are 423 housing units at an average density of 57.5/km² (148.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 81.59% White, 0.13% African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 17.02% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. 95.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 371 households out of which 55.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.9% are married couples living together, 16.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 8.4% are non-families. 7.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 4.27 and the average family size is 4.51. In the town the population is spread out with 39.4% under the age of 18, 12.6% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 17.1% from 45 to 64, and 7.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 24 years. For every 100 females there are 98.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.1 males.
