Hawthorne is a town located in Mineral County, Nevada. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,311. It is the county seat of Mineral County6.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 3,311 people, 1,465 households, and 937 families residing in the town. The population density is 863.8/km² (2,234.9/mi²). There are 1,883 housing units at an average density of 491.2/km² (1,271.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 84.48% White, 6.16% African American, 2.81% Native American, 1.21% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 3.05% from other races, and 2.17% from two or more races. 9.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,465 households out of which 24.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.4% are married couples living together, 11.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.0% are non-families. 31.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.25 and the average family size is 2.74. In the town the population is spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 22.3% from 25 to 44, 27.5% from 45 to 64, and 20.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 97.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.2 males. The median income for a household in the town is $34,413, and the median income for a family is $41,733. Males have a median income of $31,344 versus $25,058 for females.
