Gorham is a town located in Ontario County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,776.

Geography

United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 137.8 km² (53.2 mi²). 126.7 km² (48.9 mi²) of it is land and 11.2 km² (4.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.10% water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 3,776 people, 1,410 households, and 1,036 families residing in the town. The population density is 29.8/km² (77.2/mi²). There are 1,900 housing units at an average density of 15.0/km² (38.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.36% White, 0.37% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 0.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,410 households out of which 32.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.2% are married couples living together, 8.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.5% are non-families. 19.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.66 and the average family size is 3.05. In the town the population is spread out with 26.3% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 97.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.0 males. The median income for a household in the town is $43,138, and the median income for a family is $45,917. Males have a median income of $35,658 versus $23,682 for females.
