Ghostwriter

A ghostwriter is an author who writes under someone else's name, with their consent. A ghostwriten book is thus somewhat deceptive- the author on the cover is not the actual writer.

Ghostwriters are often employed by celebrities to write autobiographies in situations in which the celebrities themselves may not be talented authors.

Ghostwriter is a television series that aired on PBS from October 1992 to February 1995 and as reruns for some time after. The premise of the show is a group of kids living in New York City that solve mysteries with the help of a ghost that only communicates through writing. In 1997, CBS made a new version of the show, The New Ghostwriter Mysteries, but it failed due to lack of popularity. The show also ran on the cable/satellite network Noggin.
