Gateway Handbook

The Gateway Handbook was one of the smallest laptops on the market. The original Gateway Handbook was introduced in the early 90's and featured the Intel 80186 microprocessor. It also had 640K of RAM and a 20 megabyte hard drive. The display was a monochrome blue that was CGA compatable. The unit could be powered by a rechargeable battery or 6 AA's. Rechargable batteries had the unique feature of being able to be charged without actually being in the laptop. As with later models as well, a floppy disk could be attached through a proprietary paralell port connector. Some of the later models featured a 486SX/33 and 486DX/40 processor and grey scale VGA support. This made them of particular interest to the Linux and OpenBSD community. Later models also had a PCMCIA interface and pointing device. The Gateway Handbook remains as one of the smallest laptops produced.
