Garyville is a town located in St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,775.

Demographics

census of 2000, there are 2,775 people, 913 households, and 717 families residing in the town. The population density is 51.2/km² (132.6/mi²). There are 984 housing units at an average density of 18.2/km² (47.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 46.49% White, 52.43% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.04% from other races, and 0.68% from two or more races. 0.72% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 913 households out of which 36.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.0% are married couples living together, 24.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.4% are non-families. 17.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.03 and the average family size is 3.48. In the town the population is spread out with 30.8% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 21.0% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 88.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.1 males.
