Garden Home-Whitford is a neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, located in the southwest hills next to Beaverton.

As of the 2000 census, the neighborhood had a total population of 6,931.


Garden Home-Whitford is located at 45°27'41" North, 122°45'50" West (45.461340, -122.763807)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the neighborhood has a total area of 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²). 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


As of the census of 2000, there are 6,931 people, 3,048 households, and 1,834 families residing in the neighborhood. The population density is 1,408.5/km² (3,656.9/mi²). There are 3,175 housing units at an average density of 645.2/km² (1,675.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the neighborhood is 91.79% White, 0.75% African American, 0.40% Native American, 3.17% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 0.72% from other races, and 3.00% from two or more races. 3.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,048 households out of which 26.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.8% are married couples living together, 9.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.8% are non-families. 30.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.26 and the average family size is 2.83.

In the neighborhood the population is spread out with 21.1% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 31.6% from 25 to 44, 27.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 92.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.5 males.

The median income for a household in the neighborhood is $52,321, and the median income for a family is $60,703. Males have a median income of $45,220 versus $35,000 for females.
