Frances Brooke

Frances (Moore) Brooke (1724 - 1789) is an 18th-century English author.

Brooke wrote plays, essays, librettos, and novels. She also did some French translations.

She was well-known in London's literary and theatrical communities. She also lived in Quebec, Canada, for 5 years, where she wrote The History of Emily Montague. This brief stint in North America has caused some to label her "the first novelist in North America."
