Flower Mound is a town located in Denton County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 50,702.

Geography

Flower Mound is located at 33°1'54" North, 97°4'44" West (33.031741, -97.078818)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 112.3 km² (43.4 mi²). 105.9 km² (40.9 mi²) of it is land and 6.5 km² (2.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.76% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 50,702 people, 16,179 households, and 14,269 families residing in the town. The population density is 479.0/km² (1,240.4/mi²). There are 16,833 housing units at an average density of 159.0/km² (411.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 90.24% White, 2.92% African American, 0.35% Native American, 3.05% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.77% from other races, and 1.61% from two or more races. 5.63% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 16,179 households out of which 56.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 80.6% are married couples living together, 5.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 11.8% are non-families. 9.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.12 and the average family size is 3.34.

In the town the population is spread out with 34.8% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 39.5% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 2.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 99.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.9 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $95,416, and the median income for a family is $98,055. Males have a median income of $69,467 versus $41,317 for females. Out of the total people living in poverty, 2.7% are under the age of 18 and 1.8% are 65 or older.
